Skykomish, Wa To Leavenworth, Wa

June 21, 2010
53 Miles

Today was a day of contrasts. We started out riding from the Skykomish High school when it was about 50 degrees. We headed up Stevens Pass which is one of the highest points on the route. The only town between Skykomish and Leavenworth was Wellington. It was cold and misty.

But it turned out to be good riding conditions to climb a 7 mile mountain. We all did it and when we got to the top we had about a 20 mile downhill ride. The blue sky opened up and it was paradise.

Me Loving the Ride

Beautiful riding conditions

Wonderful riding conditions east of Stevens Pass

When we arrived in Levenworth we got to stay at a really nice bed and breakfast. Leavenworth is a remade German tourist trap but it was very fun to walk around. Ed, Tom, Tim, Dick and I ate at a German sausage/pub type of place. We all were wearing our Bike Across America shirts. Sharon, Kim, Ziva, and Susan saw us as we stood out like sore thumbs and they came over to talk with us before going to another location.

The ride conditions were a long steep seven mile climb over Stevens Pass and then a long decent to Levenworth.

Kim happy to be coming into Leavenworth
